What is the Employment Rights Act?
Primary piece of legislation setting out the basic rights of employees within the UK, for example the right to be told employment terms and the right to statutory redundancy payments.
What is the National Minimum Wage Act?
Sets out the minimum rate of pay for anyone classed as a worker and what they are entitled to, not including self employed. HMRC can take employers to court for not adhering to these standards.
What legislation regulates the maximum amount of working hours?
Working Time Directive/Regulations
What should an induction meeting cover?
Information to help an employee become established with their role, including a premise tour, access to systems, codes of conduct and policies and complaint processes.
What are the stages of a disciplinary procedure?
Informal verbal warning
First written warning
Final written warning
Suspension
Contract termination
What is modern slavery and human trafficking?
Modern slavery is the situation where an individual is in a state of servitude and forced/compulsory labour.
Human trafficking is where an individual is coerced or deceived into a situation where they are exploited.
What is the duty to notify?
Lawful requirement where employers should notify the government if they suspect employees are subject to modern slavery or trafficking.
How does a young workers’ rest breaks differ from an adults?
Young workers must have a 30 minute rest break if working more than 4.5 hours and 12 hours rest between starting and finishing work.
Muse not work at night due to the restricted period, as stated in contract.
What is an employees entitlement to rest breaks?
If they are working more than 6 hours then they are entitled to a 20 minute rest break.
They must have 11 hours rest between finishing and returning to work.
