A
- parents encouraged to see themselves as consumers of education with good parenting seen as taking on school responsibilities
- parent choice follows a pattern in social class difference and reproduction in inequality

A
- better educated middle class families are more likely to make decisions based on the school [performance

A
- competition and league tables mean that teachers are more motivated to improve rankings and ensure school survival
- teachers are more likely to allocate more time to C/D grade students to get more A*-C grades
- less able students will be ignored and marginalised :- disadvantaged will be ignored and EM

what is criticised about improving schools?
A
- poorer schools and colleges are less able to improve as a result of competition
- popular schools are likely to have more money and better facilities and better staff
- pupil premium is not enough to get better schools to take on disadvantaged students bc they’re difficult to teach

A
- dictates teachers about what they should teach
- testing is too much pressure on young children :- lowers confidence
- rise of free schools and academies undermine the purpose of the NC

what are some criticisms for lack of accountability?
A
- it can be dangerous for children due to a lack of control
- pre-marketisation, the education system was largely planned and administered by local education authority
- free schools being introduced concerns things like the lack of checks and balances in education of tax payer funds to be provided to them
