What does a debriefing session involve?
A scheduled formal meeting specifically set up for members directly involved in the traumatic critical incident to discuss reactions to the traumatic event in confidence with a qualified health professional
These sessions take place a few days after the incident, in a secure location and can last up to 2.5 hours.
Attendance is mandatory but active participation is voluntary.
These sessions are NOT operational debriefings
What does a defusing session involve?
An immediate formal meeting attended by an individual or a group of members involved in a traumatic incident to assess the needs for further assistance prior to the end of shift.
These incidents occur in a secured location where disruptions are limited and may last between 15 and 30 minutes.
Attendance is mandatory but participation is voluntary
These are NOT operational debriefings
What is a demonstrated force presence (DFP?)
Means that a CEW is unholstered AND displayed in the presence of a subject with the intention to achieve behaviour compliance
Define Alternative Dispute Resolution
Means, mediation, conciliation, negotiation or any other means of facilitating the resolution of issues in dispute by a third party.
Define Amber Alert
Means a cooperative effect between police, the media and the Ministry of Transportation to provide early notification to the public where a person under eighteen (18) years of age believed to have been abducted and where circumstances lead police to believe that the abducted person is in danger of serious bodily harm or death and there is enough descriptive information about the abducted person, and/or the abductor, and/or the abductor’s vehicle to believe an immediate broadcast alert will help in locating the person.
