A

Amniotic fluid index (AFI): the care provider measures amniotic fluid in four quadrants and adds the numbers together. Number should be greater than 5cm.

Amniotic fluid volume (AFV): One pocket of amniotic fluid should measure at least 2 cm.

define: placenta previa
- meaning “afterbirth first” - Placenta implanted too low partially or completely covering cervix - if the placenta is implanted too low; it can block the baby from delivery

define: placenta abruption
- Early separation of a normally implanted placenta after the 20th week of gestation but prior to birth (can be partial or complete separation) - the placenta comes off the uterine wall and its starts to hemorrhage, leaving the baby without oxygen

define: geriatric placenta
may struggle to give baby a decent amount of oxygen because the placenta is more calcified and stiffer (more likely to abrupt)
