Q

How do you calculate the density in a regularly shaped solid?

A
  1. Place solid on a balance, to measure the mass
  2. Measure and multiply the length, width and height of the solid, to measure the volume
  3. Divide the mass by the volume, to determine the density

Q

How do you calculate the density in an iregularly shaped solid?

A
  1. Place solid on a balance, to measure the mass
  2. Fill eureka can with water and place a measuring cylinder next to it
  3. Place the solid in a eureka can and collect the water spilled in the measuring cylinder
  4. Measure the volume of water in the measuring cylinder, to determine the volume of the solid
  5. Divide the mass by the volume, to determine the density

Q

How do you calculate the density of a liquid?

A
  1. Pour the chosen amount of liquid into a measuring cylinder
  2. Measure how many ml of liquid there is and convert it into cm^3, to determine the volume of liquid
  3. Place measuring cylinder on balance, to calculate the mass of the liquid (take multiple measurements)
  4. Divide the mass by the volume, to determine the density
