Density Flashcards
(5 cards)
1
Q
What is density?
A
How much mass a substance has, per unit of its volume
2
Q
What is density measured in?
A
kg/m^3
3
Q
How do you calculate the density in a regularly shaped solid?
A
- Place solid on a balance, to measure the mass
- Measure and multiply the length, width and height of the solid, to measure the volume
- Divide the mass by the volume, to determine the density
4
Q
How do you calculate the density in an iregularly shaped solid?
A
- Place solid on a balance, to measure the mass
- Fill eureka can with water and place a measuring cylinder next to it
- Place the solid in a eureka can and collect the water spilled in the measuring cylinder
- Measure the volume of water in the measuring cylinder, to determine the volume of the solid
- Divide the mass by the volume, to determine the density
5
Q
How do you calculate the density of a liquid?
A
- Pour the chosen amount of liquid into a measuring cylinder
- Measure how many ml of liquid there is and convert it into cm^3, to determine the volume of liquid
- Place measuring cylinder on balance, to calculate the mass of the liquid (take multiple measurements)
- Divide the mass by the volume, to determine the density
