Motion Flashcards
(22 cards)
How do you calculate average speed?
Distance divided by time
How do you Calculate distance?
Speed times time
How do you calculate time?
Distance divided by speed
What does the slope or gradient of a distance-time graph equal to?
The speed
What is velocity?
The velocity of a body is its speed in any given direction
or velocity is speed measured in a particular direction
How do you calculate acceleration?
Change in velocity divided by time taken
What does S stand for in SUVAT?
Distance
What does U stand for in SUVAT?
Initial velocity (m/s)
What does the V stand for in SUVAT?
Final velocity (m/s)
What does the A stand for in SUVAT?
Acceleration (m/s2)
What does the T stand for in SUVAT?
Time (s)
What is the first SUVAT equation?
V-U/T=A
or
Final velocity minus initial velocity divided by time equals acceleration
What is the second SUVAT equation?
V-U/A=T
or
Final velocity minus initial velocity divided by acceleration equals time
What is the third SUVAT equation?
U+AT=V
or
Initial velocity plus acceleration times time equals final velocity
What is the fourth SUVAT equation?
V-AT=U
or
Final velocity minus acceleration times time equals initial velocity
What is the fifth SUVAT equation?
U2+2AS=V2
or
Initial velocity squared plus two times acceleration and distance equals final velocity squared
What does the area under the velocity time graph represent?
Distance travelled
What is a vector?
A quantity that has both magnitude and direction
What is a scalar?
A quantity that only has a magnitude
How does an object accelerate if it’s speed is constant?
If it is going in a circle, it’s velocity is always changing because direction is constantly changing, therefore even though speed is constant it is accelerating
What are some examples of vectors?
-Force
-Velocity
-Displacement
-Momentum
-Acceleration
What are some examples of scalars?
-Mass
-Voltage
-Time
-Speed
-Current
-Distance
-Energy
