diabetic foot C5 Flashcards
(9 cards)
flucloxacillin/amoxicillin MOA
Beta lactam antibiotic
Binds to penicillin binding protein found on many bacteria and create a covalent bond, preventing the growth and replication of the bacterium
TAZOCIN MOA
Combo of Piperacillin (penicillin) with tazobactam (increases effectiveness of piperacillin by broadening the spectrum)
clarithromycin/erythromycin MOA
macrolide antibiotic
Targets ribosome. Binds to the 50S unit of the ribosome, preventing amino acid translocation and, therefore, preventing the formation of the peptide chain.
gentamicin MOA
Inhibits 30S ribosomal subunit → blocks protein synthesis
Metronidazole MOA
Enters cell via passive diffusion
Interferes with DNA replication
CEPHLASOPRIN (eg ceftriaxone, cefalexin) MOA
Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to PBPs (β-lactam)
CLINDAMYCIN - lincosamides MOA
Inhibits protein synthesis by binding to 50S ribosomal subunit
VANCOMYCIN (glycopeptide MOA)
Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to D-Ala-D-Ala terminus of peptidoglycan precursors
