Q

Plasmolysis meaning

A

The shrinking of protoplasm away from cell wall due to water loss from osmosis. Results in gaps between cell wall and cell membrane.

Q

Osmosis meaning

A

Special type of diffusion. Active transport of water molecules that move through a selectively permeable membrane from a solution of low concentration to high concentration thereby diluting it. Occurs until equilibrium of concentration of solutes.

Q

Why turgidity is important for plants?

A

Turgidity is essential in plant cells to make them keep standing upright. Plant cells that lose too much water have less turgid pressure and tend to become flaccid.
