Diffussion Flashcards

1
Q

What is diffussion

A

It is a movement of particles from one place to another. An example is when you are cooking something warm such as pizza and the smell slowly spreads through the room. The closer you are to the oven the stronger the smell is and the faster it will get to you

Q

How does diffussion relate to cells

A

It relates to it because its one way material is transported across the cell membrame.

Q

What is osmosis

A

Its the diffusion of water particles though a selective permable membrame. Water particles will move through an area of higher concentration to a area of lower concentration. If you have a glass of water that has sugar in it and you put a selective permable object between it, the water will filter through and seperate itself from the sugar. Some other water particles will stay with the sugar side though

Q

Give 3 examples of osmosis through a plant cell

A

When the nutrients and the water are equal, the cell will be normal. When more water comes through than more water coming out, the cell will swell, when more water is leaving than entering, the plant cell will dry up.
