18
Q

Histoplasmosis transmission

A

Inhalation of dust contaminated with spores from bird feces

19
Q

Common cold transmission

A

Inhalation of aerosols, direct contact with infected fomites to the mouth or eyes

20
Q

RSV transmission

A

Direct contact with infected nasal secretions or saliva

21
Q

Pneumococcal pneumonia transmission

A

Inhalation of respiratory droplets from a carrier or infected person or from endogenous bacteria when immune system is compromised

22
Q

Acute otitis media signs and symptoms

A

Minor ear ache or discomforts is the obvious symptoms, but patient can experience severe pain. A fever of 102°F, 39°C, can a company a severe infection. Pus and other exudates may also leak from the ear when the tympanic membrane ruptures

23
Q

Common cold signs and symptoms

A

Sneezing followed by runny nose and nasal obstruction; a cough may develop. Other symptoms may include a mild sore throat, mild headache and malaise

24
Q

Diphtheria signs and symptoms

A

Sudden onset of malaise, sore throat and pharyngitis with excessive mucus production. A bluish – white pseudomembrane that forms on the back of the pharynx may form which can slump off and occlude the airway, leading to suffocation. There is Mark swelling of lymph nodes in the neck that causes the patient to have, what is termed, Bull neck.

25
Pneumococcal pneumonia signs and symptoms
Acute shaking, chills with fever, unilateral chest pain and a dry cough eventually will produce a Rust – colored sputum. Other signs and symptoms include nausea, vomiting, myalgia, tachypnea, tachycardia and cyanosis
26
Histoplasmosis signs and symptoms
Fever, chills, malaise, sweating and dry cough. Headache, fatigue, confusion and encephalopathy may indicate that the infection has disseminated
27
San Joaquin Valley fever signs and symptoms
Asymptomatic. Initial flu like symptoms with fever, chills, cough and malaise. Additional symptoms may include dyspnea, night sweats, headache, myalgia, arthralgia, erythema nodosum. This disease may also manifest in the skin, bone, meninges, lymph nodes, spleen, liver, kidneys.
28
Streptococcal pharyngitis signs and symptoms
Acute sore throat, headache, fever and swollen cervical lymph nodes. The patient may also experience chills, nausea, loss of appetite and malaise
29
Tuberculosis signs and symptoms
Coughing up mucous followed by blood in the sputum. Nighttime sweats, fatigue, weight loss and fever. Breathing becomes increasingly labored. Nodules in the lungs and other organs
30
Pertussis signs and symptoms
Initial symptoms resemble the common cold. A low-grade fever of less than 102°F, 39°C followed by fits of "whooping cough". Coughing may be so severe that it may lead to vomiting and brief loss of consciousness
31
RSV control and prevention
Good hygiene, particularly handwashing
32
Influenza control and prevention
Annual vaccination
33
Primary atypical pneumonia Control and prevention
There is no known way to prevent this disease
34
Common cold control and prevention
Handwashing and keeping your hands away from mouth and eyes. If possible, avoid contact with infected people. Cover your nose and mouth when you sneeze or cough
35
Common cold treatment
Alleviate symptoms; maintain hydration; gargle with warm salt water, and use acetaminophen to reduce headache if necessary
36
San Joaquin Valleyfever treatment
Amphotericin B, but oral fluconazole, itraconazole, or ketoconazole can be used
37
Tuberculosis treatment
Isoniazid, Rifampicin, pyrazinamide, ethambutol
38
RSV treatment
Alleviate symptoms; maintain hydration; acetaminophen if necessary. Administration of oxygen
39
Acute otitis media causative agent
Streptococcus pneumoniae
40
Pneumocystis pneumonia treatment
Cotrimoxazole alone or in conjunction with pentamadine, dapsone, atovaquone, primaquine and clindamycin
41
Primary atypical pneumonia treatment
Erythromycin, however, doxycycline or levofloxacin may be used
42
Acute otitis media treatment
Amoxicillin; surgery for implantation of tubes in tympanic membrane
43
Diphtheria treatment
Antitoxin to neutralize the toxin. Erythromycin or penicillin to eliminate bacteria
44
Streptococcal pharyngitis treatment
Amoxicillin and over-the-counter products to alleviate sore throat
