dna probes Flashcards
(7 cards)
What are dna probes?
= short sections of DNA that are compkenebtary to a known sequence pf DNA mitated alelel
= labelled with a flourscent or laelled tag
What can probes be used for?
= geneti c screening
What is genetic screening?
= study of an individuals DNA to identify whether they posses a mutated alle that cause a particular disease
= reccesive mutation carrier
=
How do these probes work?
= labelle DNA probe mixed with denatyred DNA samples from an individual
= if the individual has the mutated allele the probl will bind to the complementary base pairs in one DNS trand- hybridisation
= detectd useing radiation and flourscence
What si the secodn way probes can be used for?
= personalised medicine medicines that are specificall tailored to an individaul genotype
What is genetic councelling?
= after genetic screening resuktings of the scteening and how to lower risk of the disaease
