EA Dev 2-7 plan an integrate indirect fires Flashcards
(20 cards)
Pros and cons of mortars
PRO
-fast response
-high rate of Fire
-fire without FDC
-simple
-mobility
CON
-limited range
-ammo load out
-ammo resupply
-ineffective against point target
-high angle fire
-lack of meteorological support.
Pros and cons of field artillery
PRO
-fires under all conditions of weather and types of terrain
-shift and mass fires rapidly without displacing
-Depth to combat
-variety of conventional shell/fuse combinations
-provides counter fire against enemy
-Accurate with point and area targets
CON
-Limited self-defense against ground attack
-Limited ability to destroy armored moving targets
-Large firing signature
-slower response time
What are the types of munitions?
-High explosive (HE)
-Smoke
-hexachloroethane (HC)
-White Phosphorous (WP)
-illumination
-infrared
-Visable
What are the different fuze types?
Variable time (VT) proximity
Point detonating (PD)
Delay
Electronic or mechanical time (ET or MT)
What is the variable time, proximity fuse
Send out radio signals to determine when around is 7 m above the ground
Above the ground strap comes down
What is the point detonating fuse?
Also known as, a quick fuse, round will function on an impact (on ground schrapnel goes up)
What is a delay fuse
Causes the round to function 0.05 seconds after impact. (below ground round punches through overhead cover OHC then detonates.
What is an electronic or mechanical time fuse?
Causes the round to function at a certain time during the flight
Where are the three places the fires plan can be found?
Scheme of fires, coordinating instructions, and fires annex
What are assigned target blocks?
Standardized naming convention to prevent target confusion or duplication across units
Point control measure symbol
A target less than 200 m wide, identified with target numbers in top right corner
Linear control measure symbol
More than 200 m but less than 600 m long. Target is longer than 600 m require fire support assets, other than murders or be further subdivided into multiple targets for attack.
Rectangular control measure symbol
Wider and longer than 200 m it is designated on the target list by four grids or a center grid, length, with an attitude
Final protective fire, control measure symbols
Types of priority fires that are similar to linear targets. They are pre-arranged barrier of indirect fire that prevent or stop enemy from advancing.
Series of target, control measure symbols
Target or group of target plan to support the operation. Once a series is initiated, all the targets are fired on in the predetermined sequence.
Describe close in fires
Close and fires are used to target the enemy in the engagement area prior to reaching the trigger for final protective fires
Describe final protective fires
Funnel protective fires provide an immediately available prearranged barrier of fire designed to impede enemy movement across defensive lines or areas
Describe a no fire area
An area where no fires or effects of fire are allowed, typically to protect civilians
Describe restrictive fire line
An RFL is a line established between converging friendly surface forces that prohibit fires or their effects across that line
