What are the 5 common ear complaints?
A
Impacted wax, otitis externa (swimmer’s ear), otitis media, glue ear and eardrum perforation

What to look for when examining external ear?
A
- Check for redness, swelling or discharge.
- Check for tenderness in the area behind the pinna (lower cartilage area)
- Check for tenderness in pinna and tragus (bit next to the ear hole)

Do impacted ears go away on its own?
A
Yes, 30% of them clear without intervention in 5 days

What do we recommend for impacted ears?
A
Cerumenolytics such as earclear, waxsol and cerumol

A
General inflammation of the ear as a result of funal or bacterial infection
