Generalized lymphadenopathy [90% of cases]. - Pharynx is erythematous & Hypertrophied [Tonsillopharyngitis] - Fever ! ; also you can see Hepatosplenomegaly

A
Leukocytosis , atypical lymphocytes in Blood smear

Diagnosis
A
- Initial Test
Monospot Test -POSITIVE [i.e. there is Heterophile antibodies] indicate acute infection ; if positive no need for
further investigation - If we suspected IM but Monospot is negative then check: → Anti-EBV antibodies
There is 2 Tests:
I. Anti-VCA antibodies IgM [Viral capsid antigen] – POSITIVE indicate Acute infection
II. Anti- EBNA antibody IgG [EBV nuclear antigen] – POSITIVE indicate Past infection - Culturing a throat swab shows EBV → indicate Chronic infection

Treatment
A
- mainly supportive [IV. Fluids ] b/c self-limited disease- However, complicated cases → steroids can be considered [help when there is airway
obstruction] - if myocarditis occur [Rare complication] → Beta blocker or ACE-I ]
