Etiology
A
Bacteria: Most common Strep. pyogenes = GAS [also MC cause of Erysipelas]- Virus: Adenovirus , EBV , Enterovirus [Herpangina -Cosackie A virus]

▪ Symptoms
A
- cough, sore throat, dysphagia, fever-Symptoms suggest Viral etiology:
Conjunctivitis, cough , coryza, hoarseness or ulceration

Treatment:- Viral
Pharyngitis [supportive i.e. fluids , analgesics ] - Bacterial
pharyngitis
1st line: Cephalexin/ceforal more effective than penicillin ; other options: Augmentin or clindamycin , if
allergy to beta lactams → Azithromycin
