Shaver - exp of rom rel due to 3 behavioural systems -
Attachment - links to bowlby’s internal working model and continuity - continuation of earlier style - consists of self esteem and interpersonal trust
Caregiving - how one cares for others
Sexuality systems - avoidant more likely to believe sex without love is pleasurable
Abuse - damaged ability to trust, isolating, difficulty in regulating emotion

Interaction with peers
Childhood friendships - characterised by affection, alliances, trust and acceptance - lonely children become adults with low self esteem
Parker and Asher - training ground for adult rel - rejected children suffer greatest loneliness - children with serious illnesses also miss out
Adolescent friendships - helps goal of separation from parents - emotional and physical intimacy that is diff to familial love

Simpson - 25 years, 78 pps tested at 4 key stages - securely attached in youth were more competent socially and expressive of emotion

Roisman - no effect of rom rel age 20 as a prediction for those age 30

Determinist - resistant fem with avoidant male = stable rel - can work

Nurture/nature - nature plays role - males more likely to have casual sex etc
