effect of temperature Flashcards
- enzymes (6 cards)
what is the effect of raising temperature on enzymes?
in the solution the internal energy of a system (kinetic and potential energy) increases meaning that the particles will gain more energy this will lead to more chances of an enzyme to find its complementary substarte so that they can then bind and create an enzyme- substrate complex
what happens if the temperature of an enzyme reaches above its optimum?
- it will cause the the enzyme molecule to denature
what happens when an enzyme denatures?
- the enzyme’s active site will change causing the active site not being complementary to the substrate
why does the rate of reaction decrease when an enzyme is denatured?
because the shape of the active site has changed and its no longer complementary to the active site. this means am enzyme- substrate complex cant be formed.
hat is the optimum temperature for enzymes in human body
37 C- thats also when u get sick
what is an optimum temperature?
the temperature an enzyme works best at
