Kaisers Abdication
Kaiser Wilhem II fled to the Netherlands. This left Germany without a clear leader or established form of government causing a political power vacuum.
Financial Problems
The war had almost bankrupted Germany, it had cost them around £37 Billion. This left Germany’s economy in a poor position.
New Government
The Weimer Government was founded and headed by Ebert. This was to attempt to restore order/stop communists from taking over
Influenza
Troops returned home with Spanish flu. The pandemic led to widespread illness, production delays and around 400,000 deaths.
Poverty
Food shortages were a problem at the end of WW1, and therefore, many people were starving
High unemployment
It was very difficult to find work for many after the war, and therefore, there was high unemployment which fueled peoples support for extremist parties
