13
Q

Two batteries: the main aircraft battery and the APU battery.

A

The main aircraft battery and the APU battery are wired separately or in series.

Separately (207-342, 423, and 477) can power the STBY buses for 30 minutes.

In series (351, 378, 441 and 495) can power the STBY buses for 90 minutes.

16
Q

What is the purpose of the BUS TIE System?

A

(PPI- Prevent, Provide and Isolate)

Prevent paralleling of Left and Right main buses

Provide power to both main buses

Isolate faults

17
Q

What 3 actions does the BUS TIE System do?

A
  1. Allows DC BUS Tie Breaker to close with loss of DC Power
  2. Allows Capt’s Flt Instruments to remain powered with loss of LEFT MAIN AC BUS
  3. (CONFIRM) THIRD… packet incorrect
18
Q

When can a disconnected IDG be reconnected?

A

ONLY on the ground

19
Q

How is the GROUND HANDLING BUS powered and what items are on it?

A

It is powered by EXT POWER or the APU generator

Cargo Handling and equipment

20
Q

After ENG start on GRND PWR or APU and the GEN CONT switches on, how is the ELEC System powered?

A

By the IDG powering their respected buses

21
Q

What is the Hyd Drive Gen?

How is it powered?

When does it activate automatically?

A

Hydraulic Drive Generator

Powered by the Center HYD SYS

Activates automatically when Left and Right buses are unpowered.

22
Q

What does the HDG provide power to?

A
  1. BATT and HOT BATT Buses
  2. Left and Right AC Transfer Buses
  3. Standby AC and DC Buses
  4. Captain’s FLT INSTR
23
Q

What Items are powered by the Ground Service Bus and how is it normally powered?

A

Main and APU battery chargers AND misc.

cabin lights / Right Main AC bus but can be powered alternatively by the APU Gen or EXT PWR

24
Q

Flying along, you get an EICAS message L IDG and look up to see the DRIVE light illuminated.
What happened and why?

A

The IDG has disconnected.

High Oil Temp or Low Oil Press

25
Q

What are the 5 times that pilot verification is required prior to pilot action?

A
  1. Initial GPS Position
  2. GEN DRIVE (IDG)
  3. Thrust Levers
  4. Fuel Control switches
  5. Fires switches
26
Q

Can you do an ILS on with the HDG?

A

YES

27
Q

with the Hyd Drive Gen…
Will you have a Flight Director?

A

NO

28
Q

We momentary (master caution) or alternate switches (On Switch)

What type of switch is the External Power switch?

A

It is a momentary-action switch.

29
Q

What does the External Power light AVAIL mean?

A

External power is plugged in and quality is acceptable.

30
Q

What does the ON light (with regards to the EXT PWR) mean?

A

External power is powering the buses.

31
Q

What does the ISLN Light on the BUS TIE mean?

A

A FAULT has occurred, opening the AC Bus Tie breaker.

32
Q

What does the AC Bus OFF light mean?

A

AC Bus is unpowered.

33
Q

How are the galley buses powered?

A

Via the Utility bus

34
Q

Is it possible to shed the Galley Bus and not the Utility Bus?

A

YES

35
Q

How do you shed the Galley and Utility Buses on the ground from the cockpit?

A

Advance the Thrust Levers

36
Q

How do you reset the UTILITY Buses?

A

OFF, then ON.

37
Q

What is the Generator priority?

A

Respective Internal Drive Gen, APU generator, the opposite IDG.

(EXT AC will take priority if selected ON)

38
Q

What does a GEN DRIVE light mean?

A

HOT / LOP

Low oil pressure or high oil temperature
