Electrical System Component Flashcards
(21 cards)
What are most aircraft equipped with as it relates to the voltage of direct current electrical system?
Most aircraft are a equipped with 14 V or 28 V direct current electrical system
What does a basic aircraft electrical system consist of?
Alternator
Battery
Master/battery switch
Alternator/generator switch
Bus bar, fuses, and circuit breakers
Voltage regulator
Ammeter/load meter
Associated electrical wiring
What drives/supplies electric current to the electrical system?
Engine driven alternator/generator supply electrical current to the electrical system.
Describe what the stored energy does?
Engine driven alternators/generators store energy in the battery to be used up in case of an alternator/generator fail.
Can direct current generator run an entire electrical system with stored up energy?
Not for a long time as the energy deplete quickly.
What is the benefit of an alternator?
An alternator can operate entire system, even at slower, energy speeds produce alternator current, which is converted to direct current.
What type of receptacle is useful during cold weather?
External ground power unit, GPU, can provide power for starting during cold weather.
What provides electrical energy to all electrical equipment circuits, but not the ignition system?
Turning on the master switch provides electrical energy to all equipment circuits, except the ignition system.
What are the equipment that use electrical system for its source of energy?
Position lights
Landing lights
Interior cabin lights
Anticollision lights
Taxi lights
Instrument lights
Radio equipment
Turn indicator
Electrical fuel pump
Fuel gauges
Stall warning system
Pito heat
Starting motor
The master switch is equipped with two sites. What are those two sites for?
One side is the alternator and the other side is the battery
What is used to protect circuits and equipment from electrical overload?
Fuses and circuit breakers are used to protect circuits and electrical equipment from electrical overload
Should you carry extra fuses?
Yes, you should carry three extra fuses for each fuse
What should you do if a circuit breaker pops?
Reset it by pushing it back in.
What does an AMMETER do?
An Ammeter monitors electrical performance.
What does the ammeter show?
It shows that the alternator/generator are producing enough electrical power.
It indicates if the battery is receiving enough electrical charge.
What does the 0, +, -, indicate on the ammeter?
+ Indicates it is charging the battery is receiving electrical energy from the alternator/generator
- means current is being drawn and not being replaced
What happens if the ammeter shows a full scale positive deflection?
A full scale positive deflection means malfunction of the regulator.
What happens if the amp meter shows a full scale negative deflection?
A full scale negative deflection means the alternator/generator are not working properly
What does the voltage regulator check?
The voltage regulator controls the amount of charge to the battery.
How does the voltage regulator control the rate of charge delivered to the battery?
The voltage regulators stabilizes the alternator/generators electrical output
What keeps the battery charge?
The difference in voltage, generator/alternator, higher than battery voltage, keeps battery charged.
