Flight Instruments Flashcards
(25 cards)
Airspeed indicator markings. What do they do?
Enable pilots decipher at a glance what airspeed limitation exists.
Define the white arc in the air speed indicator.
The white arc indicates the flap operating range
What two velocities exist in the white arc?
VSO and VFE.
Define VSO.
VSO is stall operation lower limit, smallest number, represents full flap, stall speed
40 KIAS,
Power off stall speed at maximum landing weight
Found in the white arc
Define VFE.
Upper limit, larger number, maximum speed with flaps extended.
85KIAS
Found in the white Ark
Define green arc.
Normal operating range most flying happens here.
Define VS1 one and where it is found
Lower limit of green arc, smallest number
Stalling, speed,
Minimum steady flight speed
Most aircraft power off stall, speed, and maximum takeoff weight in a clean configuration flaps up gear up
Define VN0
Upper limit of a green arc, largest number
Maximum structural, cruising speed
Do not exceed except in smooth air
129 KIAS
Define yellow arc
Caution range
Only in smooth air
High caution
Define red line
Never exceed speed
Prohibited
Damage
163 KIAS
Other speeds, VX
Best best angle of climb
62KIAS
Other speeds, VY
Best rate of climb,
74KIAS
Other speeds, VA
Best maneuvering speed
Dependent on weight of the aircraft for the Cessna and the best maneuvering speed is 105 at 2550 pounds and the air speed decreases as the weight decreases.
The maneuvering speed is keeping us safe if there are abrupt changes to the pitch of the aircraft, allowing us to have enough room to decrease the air speed before creating a structural damage .
What are the three instruments that are part of the static system?
The air speed indicator
the vertical speed indicator
the altimeter
Which is the only instrument that uses both the pito tube and the static port?
The air speed indicator.
What type of air does the pito tube receive?
It receives RAM air
What type of air does the static port receive?
It receives dynamic air
What does the altimeter measure?
The altimeter measures the height above a given pressure level.
What is the standard barometric pressure?
29.92 inches of mercury is the sea level barometric pressure
What is the standard air temperature?.
The standard air temperature is 15°C or 59°F
Define the vertical speed indicator?
Indicates whether the aircraft is climbing or descending or in level of flight. It is measured in feet per minute.
Define airspeed indicator.
Differential pressure gauge measures and promptly indicates the difference between peto and static pressure.
In other words, it measures the difference between RAM air and dynamic air .
What is the attitude indicator?
Attitude indicator is the artificial horizon.
What is the turn indicator?
Shows coordinated or uncoordinated flight.
