Ignition System Continued… Flashcards
(10 cards)
Describe what makes up the Spark Ignition Engine?
- Magnetos
- Spark Plugs
- High Tension Lead
- Ignition Switch
M.I.S.H
What do the magnetos use to generate and electrical current?
Permanent Magnet that is separated from the electrical system of the airplane.
How many magnetos do most certified airplanes have?
2 and they are completely individual from each other.
What do the magnetos do to the spark plug?
The magnetos generate the spark for the spark plug.
What happens if one magneto fails to fire one of the two spark plugs in the cylinder?
The other separate magneto id NOT effected and will compensate.
How many positions does the magneto switch have and what are they?
There are 5 position.
1. OFF
2. Right
3. Left
4. Both
5. Start
When can you detect a malfunctioning magneto?
At run up area Run-Up Checklist Flow.
How do you know a magneto is not responding correctly?
A magneto is not responding correctly if the RPM continues to decrease after retuning that magneto to BOTH or if there is a significant decrease >150 RPM.
What could be the cause for the faulty magneto?
Fouled plugs
Blocked or shortened wires between the magnetos and the plugs
Improperly timed firing of the the spark plugs
What grade or grades of fuel can be safely used in your aircraft in what colors are they?
Grade UL 94 clear, grade 100LL Blue grade 100green, grade unleaded 100R green
