Types of EC and time frame

A
  • Copper coil- within 5 days of UPSI, MOST effective
  • Ulipristal- within 120h
  • Levonorgestrel- within 72-96h
  • Can have repeat doses- might be less effective in 7/7

Ulipristal use/caution

A
  • Better if ovulation happened in last 5 days
  • Do not use if pt took progesterone in last 5 days
  • Caution in severe asthma, taking EI drugs and reflux
  • If BF- Discard millk for 1 weeks

  • Less effective if BMI >26 and wt >70kg
  • Can be used in BF
