Endo Flashcards
(5 cards)
FSH action in both males and females
Males - stimulates Sertoli cells to produce Sperm
Females
- stimulates growth of follicles
- stimulates prod of oestrogen by Granulosa cells (inner follicle) by converting androgens received from theca cells
LH action in both males and females
Males - stimulates leydig cells to produce testosterone
Females
- stimulates ovulation
- stimulates prod of androgens by theca cells (outer follicle) - then converted into oestrogen by granulosa cells
- stimulates development of corpus luteum - produces progesterone after ovulation
Tanner stages of pubic hair growth (5)

3 - spreads, darker, coarser
4 - adult-like but smaller area, confined to triangle
5 - adult, spreads to medial thighs
Mx of
a) central DI
b) nephrogenic DI
c) dx
d) What should one be wary of with anterior and posterior dysfunction?
e) Drug cause of nephrogenic DI?
a) DDAVP = desmopressin
b) thiazide diuretics
c) water deprivation test: plasma osmolality > 290 with inappropriately low urine osmolality —-> given DDAVP
d) cortisol needed to excrete water (?by ADH inhibition). In combined anterior and posterior pit dysfunction, if there is cortisol deficiency and DDAVP is given due to lack of vesmopressin —-> could lead to dilutional hyponatraemia.
