Endocrine Flashcards
(11 cards)
What?
Like the body’s messaging system using hormones
Growth metabolism (how body uses energy) mood and even sleep
Responds to environmental changes and regulation too
Works how
Made up of glands that produce and release hormones into the bloodstream. Travel to different organs and tissues and tell them what to do through chemicals
Important how
?
Keeps body balanced in homeostasis
Controls growth and how fast
Helps manage emotions and stress
Regulates blood sugar and energy levels
Without, your body wouldn’t know when to do all these tings, helps it work smoothly
Glands
Pituitary - In brain
Master gland, controls all other glands and has major role in water balance, growth and reproduction
Thyroid (lower abdomine)
Regulates metabolism and growth
Adrenal (On top of each kidney)
Helps body respond to stress and controls blood pressure
Pancreas (abdomen)
Regulates blood pressure by producing insulin
Ovaries and Testies (lower torso, reproductive system)
Produces hormones for reproduction and puberty
Hormones
Chemicals that travel to different parts of the body telling cells and organs what to do
How they work
Production - Glands produce hormones
Release into Bloodstream - Hormones travel through blood to target cells (specific ones)
Target cell response - Hormones attach to specific receptors on target cells, triggering a response
