➽ ENERGY - Energy adds up Flashcards

(10 cards)

1
Q

What is the law of conservation of energy?

A

No energy can be created or destroyed, only transferred. The total amount of energy stays the same before and after a change/process.

Q

What is dissipated energy?

A

Energy that is wasted; it is transferred to an unwanted store. E.g. a car engine heating up as energy is transferred to the thermal store of the car.

Q

What allows things to occur?

A

Forces, NOT energy. Energy reveals what processes are possible but doesn’t cause them:
e.g. energy from fuels can allow a car to drive but its the force from the engine that actually moves the car.
