1
Q

What is abrasion

A

It is when the waves throw sand, pebbles and even boulders against the cliff face. This works like sandpaper and the cliff is worn away. This is a very powerful form of erosion especially in storms

Q

What is hydraulic action

A

This happens when the waves force water and air into cracks in the cliff face. The parcels of air are compressed by the surging wave but when the wave retracts the air expands explosively. This weakens the crack causing the rock to shatter
