Erosion features Flashcards
(7 cards)
What are the five erosion features
Crack Cave Arch Stack Stump
What is a crack and how is it formed
A crack is a break in the rock, this will be affected by hydraulic action, this is a weak point in the rock and erosion will make it bigger
What is a cave
A cave is when a crack is affected by erosion and the gets bigger to form a cave, the cave will then be eroded and will become deeper
What is an arch
The caves on both side will meet and form an arch in the cliff and it will be affected by abbrasion
What is a stack
A stack is when the top of an arch collapses after being eroded
What is a stump
A stump is when a stack gets eroded from the bottom by abbrasion and this will form wave cut notchs which causes the stack to collapse from the top which will form a stump
How are headlands and bays formed
The coastline starts straight, the sea then starts to erode the rock. There are two types of rock hard rock and soft rock, the soft rock gets eroded more quickly and the hard rock hasn’t eroded as much. The soft rock then forms bays and the hard rock then forms headlands
This is a discordant coastline
