the importance of water - photosynthesis
-Water is important as it’s needed in photolysis.
-Light energy splits water to produce protons, electrons and oxygen.
-The electrons replace those previously lost by chlorophyll and to reduce NADP.
-Photolysis increases the concentration of the protons in the thylakoid space - this is important as it allows photophosphorolation by chemisosmosis to occur
-Chemiosmosis is the synthesis of ATP by protons diffuses across a membrane through the enzyme ATP synthase down aN electrochemical concentration gradient.
-The oxygen is used in aerobic respiration.
The importance of energy transfers - photosynthesis
-Energy transfers are important in photosynthesis as light energy is needed to produce ATP and reduced NADP in the light dependant reaction
-In photoionisation light energy is absorbed by chlorophyll - this excites electrons
-The electrons move down the electron transfer chain releasing energy - this energy is used for the phosphorolation of ATP from ADP and Pi as protons pass through the ATP synthase
