Estuaries

A

1- During a rising tide, river water is unable to be discharged into the sea
2- This creates a mix of fresh water and salty sea water making brakish.
3- The river’s velocity falls and sediment is deposited in layers called beds. (flocculation)
4-At low tides these fine deposits cause extensive mudflats.
OVERTIME mudflats develop into important natural habitats called saltmarshes
