Managed Retreat
A
-the controlled flooding of low-lying coastal areas (usually if the land is of low-value)
ADVANTAGES
1-cheaper option than sea defences
2-creates a saltmarsh which can provide habitats and is a natural defence against erosion and flooding
DISADVANTAGES
1- land is lost as it is reclaimed by the sea
2-landowners need to be compensated
