euro maths scatter graphs Flashcards
(6 cards)
1
Q
what are scatter graphs used for ?
A
to check if there’s a correlation between the data sets/ if the two variables correlate
2
Q
correlation can be :
A
- positive or negative
- weak or strong
~ correlation doesn’t always imply causation
~sometimes, there is NO correlation
3
Q
the line of best fit :
A
- doesn’t have to pass through the origin
- is extending in the middle of the scatter graph
- follows the steepness of the scatter graph
~it can be used to find some estimates
4
Q
a linear equation
A
a linear equation always has the form:
y = mx + b
m represents the slope
b represents the y-intercept
5
Q
the slope
A
slope = rise/ run
rise is how much a line goes up or down
run is how much a line goes left or right
6
Q
voc scatter graphs
A
we need 2 sets of data
the origin
the x-axis
the y-axis
to plot a point
a scatter plot
to draw a line extending from a value
