Exercise Flashcards
(10 cards)
When you exercise, do you respire more or less?
More
What do muscles need in order to contract?
Energy from respiration
When you exercise, why does your breathing rate and breath volume increase?
To get more oxygen into the blood
When you exercise, why does your heart rate increase?
To get oxygenated blood around the body faster. This also removes carbon dioxide more quickly
Anaerobic respiration leads to what?
Oxygen debt
What is oxygen debt?
Oxygen debt is the amount of extra oxygen your body needs to react with the build up of lactic acid and remove it from the cells.
What happens to your pulse and breathing rate when there are high levels of lactic acid and carbon dioxide?
They stay high
What’s a way with coping with the high level of lactic acid that includes blood?
The blood that enters your muscles transports the lactic acid to the liver. In the liver, the lactic acid is converted back to glucose.
How can you measure breathing rate?
By counting breaths and heart rate by taking the pulse
How do you take the pulse?
You put two fingers on the inside of your wrist or your neck and count the number of pulses in one minute
