A

aim- examine effect of done on mood in elderly people with parkinsons over 12 weeks and over an hour

37 pps from Hertfordshire, UK, 22pps had mild to moderate parkinsons
both males and females
all age matched
volunteer sampling, local advertisements and informed consent

used matched pairs and repeated measures
iv- parkinsons or not
iv- week 1 or week 12 and before class or after class
dv- pps mood scores

pps filled out questionaire and poms
attended weekly dance class for 10 weeks
last 50 mins, 30 mins acc dancing
all classes appropriate for age, mobility and contraints, could sit down if wanted
style changed every 2 week, bollywood, tango etc
2 seperate but identical classes
in 9th week did BRUMS test and in 12th week completed poms again

results-
10 weeks- angler decline significantly, as well as anxiety and tension
one dance class- 100% reported improved mood, TMD scores improved significnantly impvoed

conclusions-dance improves mental health, has physioloigcal and mental benefits

useful- when creating an exercise group, make sure includes all 3 hyptoehsis
weakness- determinism, ignores role of free will that indiivduals are relying on external aspects to help their mental health and is not in their own control.
