Expert Systems Flashcards
What is a shell?
An empty knowledge base. In contains the components such as knowledge acquisition, knowledge based, and user interface. It is the software environment for creating an expert system.
What is fuzzy logic?
Designed to solve problems using probabilities instead of using true/false. Decisions can be made with uncertain data by the computer mimicking human reason. Makes the best possible decision given the input.
What is a knowledge engineer?
An experienced practitioner who obtains the facts and uses required using structured or unstructured problem solving. They collect information for the knowledge base.
Why is a knowledge base?
The facts and rules which relate to the subject domain.
What is an interface engine?
Interrogates the knowledge base and draws conclusions. It poses questions to the user and I’ll determine a suitable response.
What is factual knowledge?
Information which is proven to be true. It gets the information from the knowledge engineers who relate the the subject domain.
What is heuristic knowledge?
Rules derived from experience that work with uncertainty. It consists of rules of thumb and requires judgements not purely from logic to produce decisions.
Medicine
-make t8mely and informed decisions on who gets treated first
-doesn’t get overworked
-aids students training
-do not learn from mistakes
-not every scenario can be programmed
Life insurance
-more accurate premiums which is produced rapidly and consistently
-make rational decisions without emotional overhead
-risk of over reliance which can lead to consulats becoming deskilled
-expert system may overlook special circumstances
Car engine faults
-accurate as being based off probability
-risk of over reliance and mechanics may become deskilled
