Explanations of attachment Flashcards
(5 cards)
What is Operant Conditioning
Learning process that uses rewards and punishments to change behaviour
What is Classical conditioning
Learning through association, a neutral stimulus (mother) becomes associated with a stimulus (food) that naturally produces a behaviour.
Explain Dollard and Miller’s Drive reductionist theory
Suggests that infants develop attachments to caregivers primarily becasue they associate the caregiver with the reduction of basic drives like hunger.
what is Bowlby’s view of attachment ?
Argured that it was an evolutionary survivial instinct shared by all humans. This meant attachment is not learned, it is an adaptive behaviour passed down through our DNA
What are the 6 major features of attachment proposed by Bowlby
1.Attachment is adaptive
2.Monotropy(one speccial attachment)
3.Quality not quantity
4.internal working model (schemas)
5.The critical period(Before 2and a half)
6.Social Releasers
