what is a strength of family therapy for treating schizophrenia
P: A strength of family therapy for schizophrenia is its economic benefit.
E: Research has shown that family therapy can be £1,004 cheaper than standard care over a 3 year period while still producing positive outcomes.
E: This makes it a cost-effective option for the NHS, especially when resources are limited, and reduces the long-term financial burden on healthcare services by lowering relapse rates
L: Therefore, the economic advantage of family therapy adds to its appeal as an effective and sustainable treatment
what is a limitation of family intervention as a treatment for schizophrenia
P: A limitation of family therapy is that its success relies heavily on the engagement of family members
E: Some relatives may be unwilling to take part or may misrepresent their level of involvement, either due to denial, guilt, or lack of time
E: This can reduce the effectiveness of the therapy, as it depends on honest communication and active participation to improve family dynamics and reduce stress for the patient.
L:Therefore, family therapy may not be suitable or effective in all cases
