Doubt: “when I behold the heavens then I repent” - Faustus still wanting to turn back and repent for his actions
Persuasion: “Thinks’t thou heaven is such a glorious thing? Tis not half so fair as thou” - Mephistopheles persuades Faustus that heaven is not as wondrous as human life
Resolution: “My heart’s so hardened I cannot repent” / “I am resolv’d” - No longer wanting to repent convinced that he’s unable to do so
Gain: ‘All jointly move from east to west in four and twenty hours’ / ‘Faustus shall ne’er repent’ - Faustus rewarded with knowledge of the universe
Act 5, Scene 1:
DPRG
Doubt: “That I might prevail / To guide thy steps unto the way of life” - The old man pushes Faustus to repent
Persuasion: “Revolt, or I’ll piecemeal tear thy flesh” - Faustus is threatened by Mephistopheles
Resolution: “With my blood again I will confirm / my former vow” - Faustus reaffirms his vow to Lucifer in blood
Gain: “Her lips suck forth my soul” - Faustus takes Helen of Troy as his lover
