Feedback Systems Flashcards
(10 cards)
What are the five components of a feedback system?
Stimulus, receptor, control center, effector, and response.
What is a stimulus?
A change that disrupts balance, such as increased body temperature.
What does a receptor do?
It detects the change, like thermoreceptors sensing heat.
What is the role of the control center?
It processes information and sends instructions (e.g., brain or glands).
What is an effector?
An organ or tissue that carries out the response (e.g., sweat glands).
What is the response in a feedback system?
The action taken to restore balance, like sweating.
What is negative feedback?
A process that reverses a change to bring the body back to normal.
Give two examples of negative feedback.
Temperature regulation and blood sugar control.
What is positive feedback?
A process that amplifies a change until a specific event ends it.
Give two examples of positive feedback.
Blood clotting and childbirth contractions.
