Trench Warfare
a series of two, three, four, or more trench lines running parallel to each other and being at least 1 mile (1.6 km) in depth. Each trench was dug in a type of zigzag so that no enemy, standing at one end, could fire for more than a few yards down its length.

Zimmerman Note
decode note proposed a military contract between the German Empire and Mexico if the United States entered World War I against Germany. With Germany’s aid, Mexico would recover Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico. The telegram was intercepted by British intelligence.

Ends WW1 - Demands Germany admit they caused the war and they will pay reparations or war damages, 9 new countries formed.
Wilson Puts forth Fourteen Points-includes an idea for an international organization called the League of Nations. Allies reject most of the plan except the League
- Ironically, later the US Senate votes NOT to join the League
