Stoppage Drill:

A

• Verbal challenge
• Attempt to shoot – can’t fire
• Check safety – push forward if needed
• Attempt to shoot again – can’t fire
• Yell “Stoppage”
• Adopt rest position
• Insert new magazine
• Cock the firearm
• Assess the situation

Handover Procedure:

A

If Giving the Firearm:
• Use radio to communicate
• Point firearm in a safe direction
• Remove and check magazine
• Conduct a safety inspection

A

• Load magazine
• Check safe
• Carry in range carry position

Safe Handling:

A

Nominate a safe direction.
Tilt the firearm ¼ turn to the right.
With the thumb (strong hand), push the release latch forward.
Free the strong hand from the firearm.
Visually check the chamber and announce loudly, “Clear.”
Check the extractor rod (push back and forth with the index finger), ensuring the extractor star is free of any debris.
Reestablish your grip on the firearm.
Rotate the cylinder back to the left with the support hand.
Cock the firearm with the support hand thumb.
Check the hammer nose/face for any debris.
Reestablish a two-handed grip on the firearm.
Fire in single action and return the trigger finger to the receiver.
Fire in double action and return the finger to the receiver.

Loading:

A

Nominate a safe direction.
Tilt the firearm ¼ turn to the right.
Push the cylinder out.
Free up your strong hand.
Tilt the firearm downwards to assist in loading with the strong hand.
Every 2 rounds, look left and right to ensure safety.
The last round should be positioned at the 1 o’clock position.
Reestablish your grip on the firearm.
Close the cylinder securely.

Admin Unload:

A

Nominate a safe direction.
Tilt the firearm right.
Release the cylinder.
Free up your strong hand.
Adopt a “karate chop” position at the end of the grip.
Swing up and depress the extractor, catching the rounds as they eject.
Secure the rounds properly.
Conduct a safety inspection on the firearm.

Tactical Unload:

A

Adopt the range rest position.
Tilt the firearm to the right.
Release the latch.
Free up your strong hand.
Use the support hand to move the firearm in front of your eye level.
With a strong palm strike, depress the extractor rod twice to eject the rounds.
Load live rounds into the firearm.
Adopt your grip and close the cylinder.
Back on target and assess the situation.

Render Safe:

A

Nominate a safe direction.
Reestablish a two-handed grip on the firearm.
With the support hand thumb, depress the hammer spur and hold it in the rear position.
Maintain control of the hammer while slowly releasing it (very slowly).
When the hammer is almost in the hole, squeeze the trigger with the index finger.
After the release, you should hear two clicks
