Lotus Flower Tongue

A

A condition characterised by distention and protrusion of dark-red or purple coloured blood vessels below the tongue. Little growths may form resembling little tongues, hence the alternative name of baby tongue. These may join together to form larger growths resembling lotus flowers. Systemic symptoms may include tidal fever, headache with stiffness of the neck, difficulty in swallowing food, inability to speak and drooling. Over a period of time erosion may develop. This condition is usually attributed to Heart and Spleen damp-heat compounded by attack of exterior wind.

Q

ST25 Notes

A

One of the points in the Internal Dragons protocol in five element acupuncture, along with Jiuwei Ren-15, Futu St-32 and Jiexi St-41, for eliminating a blockage between the therapist and patient, or a disconnection from themselves, due to internal causes.

Front-Mu points can be used to treat diseases of the affected Zang-Fu organ, and those of Yang meridians and collaterals. They treat diseases of Six Fu-organs and diseases of yang meridians. An adverse reaction when a Front-Mu point is pressed can help make a diagnosis.
