Gait Flashcards

1
Q

What are the six determinants of gait?

A

1) pelvic rotation
2) pelvic tilt
3) stance knee flexion
4) foot mechanisms
5) knee mechanisms

Q

What is the inverted pendulum model?

A

The work done while walking elevates the COM and is recaptured on the decline (a pendulum swinging). Essentially you create energy and use that energy in a cycle so that walking becomes very efficient

Q

What are some of the sexual dimorphisms in gait?

A

Females: greater cadence (walk faster), shorter step length, narrower step width, knee more valgus, pelvis tilted more anterior
