What is A1C?
2-3 month average of blood sugar levels
★ Physicians use this blood test to determine how well the client is controlling type 2 diabetes
A1C Levels
★ Normal – Below 5.6%
★ Prediabeties – 5.7-6.4%
★ Controlled diabetes – 6.1-6.9%
★ Uncontrolled / above normal – 7.0% & above
Signs & Symptoms of Heterotopic Ossification
★ develops in soft tissue around the joint or in the joint capsule and ligaments
★ forms a bony bridge across the joint, fusing the joint
★ pain is localized and severe
★ loss of ROM is rapid
★ results in a hard, unyielding feel at the joint’s end of available ROM
Interventions for Heterotopic Ossification
★ frequent AROM exercise of the joint should be completed within the pain-free range
★ interventions should focus on preservation of AROM
★ avoid dynamic splints or forceful passive stretching
★ may require surgical intervention
Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy
Very rare neurological disorder marked by inflammation of nerve roots
★ causes demylination of the myelin sheath
★ early signs include:
- paralysis
- numbness
- tingling sensation in the hands & feet (proximal to distal)
★ weakness occurs symmetrically affecting the shoulders and hips equally
