Choosing another option.
What is ‘Burial and compaction’?
When carbon is buried over millions of years to become coal, oil or gas (fossil fuels).
What does ‘Contribute’ mean?
To add to something.
What is ‘Decomposition’?
When animals and plants die they are broken down into the soil.
What does ‘Deforestation’ refer to?
When trees are cut down by people.
What is ‘Diffusion’?
When carbon that is in the atmosphere dissolves into oceans, or is released from the oceans to the atmosphere.
What does ‘Digestion’ involve?
When plants are eaten the carbon is passed from plants to the animals.
What does ‘Extract’ mean?
When something is removed from somewhere.
What are ‘Fossil fuels’?
A fuel created from the remains of dead living organisms.
Eg coal, oil, gas.
What is the ‘Greenhouse effect’?
When gases in the Earth’s atmosphere trap heat and this causes the Earth to warm up.
What is a ‘Greenhouse gas’?
A gas that can absorb heat.
What is ‘Photosynthesis’?
When trees take in carbon from the atmosphere to make energy.
What does ‘Process’ mean?
An action that leads to a result.
What does ‘Renewable’ mean?
Something that can be used repeatedly without running out.
What is ‘Respiration’?
When plants/animals release carbon.
What does ‘Sustainable’ mean?
Meeting the needs of the present without compromising (negatively affecting) the needs of the future.
