Where is Mumbai and what are some facts about it?
Mumbai is on the west coast of India in the state of Maharastra.
It has over 20M people, and is the second most populated city in India and India’s richest city.
What are some opportunities for TNCs and businesses in Mumbai?
Mumbai is on the coast, and is the first major city that western trading ships reach, so it’s easy for TNCs to export goods to the west.
Most high skilled workers are unemployed, so there are lots of high skilled workers who could work for a TNC.
The minimum wage is very low in India.
There are zones in Mumbai where businesses can pay less taxes.

Unemployment and poverty are large problems in Mumbai. There are few formal jobs that require low skills, so many people have to work in informal jobs for low pay and poor working conditions.

An economy not monitored by the government. Workers are usually low skill and don’t declare their work so don’t pay tax.
