Germany Democracy And Dictatorship Flashcards
(5 cards)
What was growing in the time before 1918?
The SDP and socialism - the Kaiser was never the best leader, and the work conditions in Germany were poor - therefore, people looked both to trade unions, and the community party as a way of hopefully spreading out power and wealth
What was the Spartacist’s revolt?
The spartacists where a socialist group in Germany Post ww1, who had 2 main leaders and had a revolt in 1919.
They where violently taken down by the Freikorps (far right para-military (Germany had no real police to speak of)) where both leaders either fled or died.
Shows chaos and political unrest.
What was the kapp putsch (1920)
A right wing revolt, more successful then SR but only as the army refused to fight them (there’s a pattern here) however the government gave all workers pay if they striked - so strike they did, which made the revolt fall apart.
(Also made the government meet in weimar)
Who was at the Munich putsch? (1923)
The incredibly unsuccessful revolt done by the Nazis was joined in by Hitler - who then got free press as he made a palava of his court proceedings and then wrote a book in Prison -
