how do we now have a hybrid culture
worldwide companies- starbucks and cola means everyone drinks same thing
entertainment- global reach for entertainers, streaming platforms allow us to view media from other countries
advertising- advertised globally so we are all familar with the same brands, online shopping
what do hyperglobalists say
-shape our identities using the media (social media, strinati- high culture and pop culture has became blended, increasing consumer choice eg opera songs play at sporting events)
-we have more choice
-greater interactivity, particpatory culture ( jones- new communitys as we feel more connected, fans of cancelled shows lobby networks to make them return)
what do pessimistic globalists say
hyperrality-media saturated society, bombareded with artifical images, cant tell what is real or not (garrod- reality tv like big brother blurs distinction, media creates reality)
consumerism-pressure to consume products due to trends, content more important than quality
cultural imperalism- trad cultures are killed off, whole world becomes the same (tv,films,shops) a02-coco-colonisation
