define ASD
- a developmental disorder affecting verbal and nonverbal communication, and social interaction
- generally evident before the age of 3
- adversely affects a child’s educational performance
criteria for ASD

- difficulty forming age-appropriate peer relationships
- intense focus on specific interests
- rigid adherence to routines
- repetitive motor movements
causes of asperger’s
- genetic
- brain abnormalities

- cognitive behavioral therapy
define rett syndrome
- a condition affecting mostly females, characterized by a normal early development followed by loss of purposefulness use of the hands, distinctive hand movements, seizures, slowed brain and head growth, gait abnormalities, and mental retardation
criteria of rett syndrome
- early normal retardation
- regression
SYMPTOMS

- physical therapy and hydrotherapy
- medication
- assistive technology
- nutritional support
define childhood disintegrative disorder
- also known as Heller’s Syndrome of Disintegrative Psychosis
- characterized by significant loss of previously acquired language and social skills after at least 2 years of normal development, and typically occurs before age 10
criteria of CDD
- normal development for at least 2 years
- symptoms align with ASD and occur before age 10
- symptoms cannot be explained by other conditions like rett syndrome or childhood schizophrenia
symptoms of CDD
- loss of expressive language skills
- loss of receptive language skills
- decline in social skills especially in interacting with or responding to others
- inability to express basic needs
cause of CDD
combination of genetic predisposition and prenatal or environmental factors
interventions for CDD
