phenomenon in which the norm for consensus overrides realistic appraisal of alternative objectives and arrive at high quality solutions
groupthink is related to norms and affects decision making
describes situations in which group pressures to conform deter group from critically appraising unusual, minority or unpopular views.

a change between a groups decision and individuals decision that a member within the group would make.
shift could either be towards conservatism or greater risk but generally towards more extreme version of groups original position

encourage group leaders to play impartial role
appoint one member to play devils advocate- overtly challenging majority position and offering divergent perspectives
delay discussion of possible gains - first talk about dangers/risks
